It is battery powered, need 4 cells. the recommended battery type is C, which is a wider version of AA more commonly known. Google if you're not sure. I didn't have any C battery at the time but it worked well because they are the same length, however I would expect shorter battery life of AA. make sure you have the type C battery, so you won't need to edit cells too often. the installation is very simple and easy.
